Meet Duane

Owner of Homestead Artisans

My art is creative entertainment. When I am working on my pieces of furniture or wall art I am truly in my happy place. The only things that I derive more enjoyment out of life are spending time with my wife, family, & friends.

The inspiration behind my work is dictated by each individual piece of wood and whatever other element that will go into that particular project. Many times when I grab a slab of live edge wood I will instantly know what it will become.

I started making furniture in the beginning because I hated to see scrap lumber getting thrown away. When I first saw the live edge creations of Master Craftsman George Nakashima, I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my furniture making life. Each piece is unique because every inch of live edge board is original, as opposed to the square edges and straight lines of standard lumber. And if you leave the bark on or can expose the insect architecture underneath and highlight those features that are the handy work of Mother Nature and Father Time, you will have a one-of-a-kind piece.

I would like people to view each piece and marvel at the utter beauty of the wood and think about how it was transformed from the Supreme Being's tree into a piece of art that will continue to give him gratitude.

"The Creator's Quintessential Designers Are Mother Nature and Father Time."
